John is the first-person narrator, because line 87 reads "She looked I<me> over
carefully, checking for any clues as to what mood I left Bore in".

How does the choice of narrator influence your feelings, sympathies or opinions
concerning John and his father?

John describes his feelings the best, because the narrator I<is> John. So, he
can give us first-hand information. Additionally, he puts everything in his
perspective, so we're brought to think, that he's right. If John's father was
the narrator, then, I guess, we could understand his point of view better.
To abstract: The perspective depends significantly on the narrator.
